Why this site exists

Edinburgh punishes a vague plan in three specific ways. Edinburgh Castle sells its allocation online and then stops selling: Historic Environment Scotland states that once the online tickets are gone, no further tickets are available at the castle — there is no queue to join. The Palace of Holyroodhouse closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays out of season and shuts entirely when the King is in residence, which is announced at short notice. And the passes sold as savings — the Royal Edinburgh Ticket at £81, the Historic Scotland Explorer Pass at £48 — only beat paying separately at a pace many visitors never reach, with the Explorer Pass excluding Holyroodhouse altogether.

So every price, hour and closed day here is read off the official page of the building itself and stamped with the date it was read. Where the official source does not state a figure, the page says not stated instead of borrowing a plausible one — Camera Obscura publishes no price list at all, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo publishes no ticket bands, and Dynamic Earth's own site carries no opening hours.

Where the information comes from

Opening hours, closed days, ticket names and admission prices come from the official sites of the institutions themselves — historicenvironment.scot for the castle and Holyrood Park, rct.uk for the Palace of Holyroodhouse, nms.ac.uk for the National Museum of Scotland, nationalgalleries.org for the two national galleries, cultureedinburgh.com for the city's own museums and monuments, and each attraction's own shop for the rest — plus edinburgh.gov.uk for the visitor levy, lothianbuses.com and edinburghtrams.com for fares, and each day-trip destination's own travel page for journey times. Each page prints the source and the check date in its freshness box.

Climate figures come from the Open-Meteo ERA5 reanalysis for 1995–2024, computed for this site rather than copied from a weather page. Rail fares appear nowhere here: ScotRail's website blocks automated reading, and we do not print a fare we could not read.

Tour prices, durations, ratings and review counts are the booking platform's own published numbers, read on the date shown on the card, in pounds as the platform listed them. Dollar figures are approximations at £1 = $1.36 and are never what you are charged.

What we do not claim

There is no invented author here, no character who lives in a particular quarter and no claim that someone from this site stood in a particular queue on a particular morning. We do not operate or personally conduct these tours, and we do not inspect museums or audit any operator.

We also hold no bookings. Every Check Availability button hands you to the platform the tour is sold on, where the price, the terms and the cancellation window are theirs. Official ticket offices are linked plainly, without any tracking on the link, whenever buying direct is the better move — which for several of the Edinburgh tickets covered here it is.

How the site pays for itself

Tour and activity links on this site are affiliate links: book through one and the platform pays us a commission, at the same price you would have paid going there yourself. That pays for the research and buys nothing else — not placement, not a rating, not the wording of a recommendation. Where the official ticket office is cheaper or the only sensible option, the page says so even though that link earns nothing.

Corrections

Museum hours in Edinburgh change with the season, ticket systems get renamed and prices move every year. If a number here is out of date, write to us with what you found and when you were there. A corrected figure is worth more than a defended one.
